How to Re-Post Content on Instagram

As a small business owner, you know that staying active on social media platforms like Instagram is important. However, we know it can become time consuming to create good content every day that represents your business in a positive way. This is where it can be beneficial to re-post (or re-gram) others' content-- but how do you do it? Posting other people's content can feel uncomfortable because it feels like plagiarism. It's not! And there's a way to do it correctly! Here's how:

Scroll through Instagram and look for anything that is relevant to your brand, your message, your aesthetic. When you find something relevant, it's important to follow proper etiquette when re-posting to avoid "stealing" the content or stepping on anyone's toes. You can use an application (we like Repost It! for Instagram or Repost for Instagram) which automatically watermarks the photo with the original user's tag or you can screenshot the content and tag the account and give photo creds if possible in your caption. (Note: normally, this is all you need to do but in the event that the user reaches out to you and says that they are uncomfortable with you using their photos despite your attribution, delete the photo and search for something else to post.) Check out Red Root's Instagram account to see how we repost local businesses' content!

An important benefit of reposting content is that it puts you and your brand on someone else's radar. When you repost and tag the other account, they receive a notification and more times than not, other users will write a comment to thank you for sharing their post. This creates an interaction and increased engagement on the post and on your account, laying a foundation for a new relationship.

Re-posting content helps you to stay relevant on social media, offsets the time it takes to create all of your own graphics and also fosters and maintains good relations with other users. While it is important to create your own content frequently, re-posting should be a welcomed practice on your social media.

Show Some Love This Season 💌💌💌

Valentine's Day is coming up and you may be asking yourself, how can I show my social media community some love (and maybe even receive some in return)? Today, we would like to talk about engagement. Do you feel like you have been diligent in posting on your social media to let people know what's been going on with your small business, but are unhappy with the amount of responses in terms of likes and comments, as well as gaining followers?

This may be because of a lack of engagement, a buzzword in the social media marketing field. Think of it like this: if you're having a garage sale and you put your valuable belongings out on the front yard, you may have some people who organically stumble across the sale and stop to look around. However, unless you reach out to the community in some capacity, it's likely you won't receive much traffic to your sale. Simply posting all of your best content to the vast sphere of social media won't draw in large audiences. What can you do?

Show some love to your social media community. This is a two-way relationship! Go on to your various accounts for a bit every day and engage with your followers and those who follow you by liking, commenting, re-posting and interacting with them. The best way to receive love is to give it yourself by frequently engaging with your social media community to foster a larger broad base of followers and brand loyalty. Now go out there and show some Valentine's Day love!

Linking Your Business Social Media Accounts

Let's Connect: Increase Your Reach and Your Free Time

So you’ve done it: you created new content to post to your social media accounts for your loyal followers! As a small business, disseminating your message on social media is vital to attracting and maintaining people who are interested in your particular brand. Now that you have created this content though, the thought of having to individually post it to all of your different accounts seems more like a drag rather than a fun task that you know will benefit you in the long run. Lucky for you, there is an easy way to link your social media accounts so that one post can show up across all of your accounts! Today, we’re going to focus on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, see below!

Connect Your Instagram to Facebook and Twitter
Instagram, the photo-sharing mobile app is a fabulous tool to post visuals about your brand and get other users excited about your small business. Instagram is set up to easily link your Facebook and Twitter accounts! So how do you do it?

  1. Choose your content and edit it to your liking in the Instagram app

  2. Press next, which will bring you to where you are prompted to write a caption, add a location, tag friends, etc. At the bottom of that page there will be options to post your picture to Facebook, Twitter, and the other accounts mentioned above.

  3. Slide whichever ones you want until the bar turns green. At this point, Instagram will prompt you to sign into your Facebook and Twitter to authorize your accounts.

  4. Once you have signed in, you’re done! Post away and feel content knowing your content will be posted across multiple platforms at once

Connect Your Facebook to Twitter
Now that your Instagram is linked to your Facebook and Twitter accounts, you can link your Facebook to your Twitter account. Upon doing this, all of your content that you post on Facebook will immediately post on Twitter as well. Here's how:

  1. Log into your Twitter account and go to the Settings page.

  2. Click App’s Tabs

  3. Next, press Connect To Facebook

  4. Here, it will prompt you to sign into your Facebook, once again to authorize you as the user

  5. After a quick security disclaimer from Twitter, press Okay

  6. Then, you will be asked to determine your privacy settings. Here is where you decide whether you would like your content to be visible to your friends or the general public

  7. Press Okay and there you have it!

Connect Your Twitter to Facebook
It is also possible for you to connect your Twitter with your Facebook page so any tweets you post or re-tweet will also show up on Facebook. This is less common but is still a great way to broadcast your message. To do this:

  1. Log into Twitter and go to Settings

  2. Go to the Apps page

  3. Under Facebook, press Connect to Facebook

  4. At this point you need to grant twitter the right to “manage pages” so that you can link to your Facebook page

  5. Select whichever Facebook page you want to link and press “allow permission”

  6. You're connected!

Note: Just as a disclaimer, if you choose to link your Facebook with your Twitter or vice versa, be mindful of where you post your Instagram content! Meaning, if you post an Instagram to Facebook and Twitter, but also have your Facebook and Twitter linked, your Instagram content will post to Twitter more than once.
